Gopher State Baseball League wraps up 2014 season

Wow, another spring/summer baseball season is complete! The past four months has been a whirlwind. Even with the rain and inclimate weather we had during the months of April, May and June, all teams adjusted and worked hard to reschedule and get their games in. We want to thank each team, coach, player, parent, association travel director and president for making the 15thanniversary of the Gopher State Baseball League such a special year.

We are once again proud of the strength and growth of the GSBL with 442 traveling baseball teams participating in our 15thcampaign. With 54 league divisions that were broken down based upon geographic location and more than 55 associations represented, we are proud of the strength and growth of this league.

The season culminated with the single elimination league playoffs, which were hosted at some of the top venues in the metro area. Many of the league championship games were very competitive and matched teams that had not faced each other all season.

The 14AAA Tier I League Champions, STMA Knights and the 15AAA Tier I League Champions, STMA Knights, had the opportunity to represent the GSBL at Siebert Field in the Play Ball! MN Championship Game on July 22. The STMA Knights lost 11-6 against the Woodbury Royals and the 15AAA STMA Knights was defeated 16-2by the Burnsville Blaze. Even though we went down in defeat, it was a great day for the GSBL and youth baseball!

The championship games were held during the week of July 21 for 9-12u teams. The 9u and 10u championships were held at the Fridley Little League Fields, and the Northwoods Complex in Brooklyn Park was host to the 11U & 12U League Championships. The 13AAA and 13A League Championships were held at Central Park #3 on July 23, 24 and 29.The 13AA League Championships were held at Edinbrook Fields in Brooklyn Park on July 23.

On July 17, the 14AAA and 15AAA Tier I Championships were held at beautiful Castle Park in Anoka. Playoffs resumed on July 21 and more league championships took place on July 24 for the 14AAA Tier II and 15AAA Tier II Championships once again at Castle Park. The playoffs continued on Saturday, July 26 and Sunday, July 27. The MYAS baseball staff was proud to have the great Midway Stadium, as well as Century College, home of the Wood Ducks. These fabulous venues played host to our 16U and 17-19U league championships, where six more teams earned the title of League Champion.

The playoffs concluded on July 28-July 29 with the 14AA, 15AA and 14/15A league championships, hosted by Midway Stadium and Century College. On July 29, GSBL hosted its final League Championship Game at Midway Stadium. Thank you to Bob Klepperich and all the stadium staff over the years for making our championship games so special for all of our team. We will miss good old Midway! In all, 36 teams were crowned 2014 GSBL League Champions.

The Gopher State Baseball League is stronger today than it has ever been and we would like to thank everyone who participated for making this another great year. The reason why the league has gained such a strong reputation is because of the member associations, the coaches and all the participants who make this a fantastic product! We will continue to listen to our participants in order to make this product even better as we embark on our 16thcampaign of the Gopher State Baseball League.

Final results of the 2014 Gopher State Baseball League Division and League Champions are available on the GSBL portion of the MYAS website at www.myas.org. If your association would like additional information about GSBL nation and are currently not participating, please do not hesitate to contact the League Commissioner at dawson@myas.org.
