USSSA Update

By Gerry Turnberg

USSSA State Director

Central Divisional Vice President

Hats off to Warren Bellm, Joe Ericksen and the entire staff at Brooklyn Center for once again showing why Minnesota hosts the No. 1 Major NIT in the country!

Congratulations to Resmondo-Specialty Tank/Worth (Winter Haven, Fla.) for capturing the title and securing their No. 1 ranking by defeating GTL Cartel/DeMarini (Othello, Wash.) 52-34. Sincere congratulations to Park Center High School graduate Scott Striebel who plays for Resmondo and was named to the All-Tournament team.

Where has the summer gone? Before we know it, the WNBA season will be wrapping up with Maya Moore hopefully leading the Minnesota Lynx to their first WNBA title.

Our Youth State Championships will be held July 15-17 with action taking place in Andover, Champlin, Oakdale and St. Paul. Good luck to all teams!

Where has the summer gone? Before we know it, the WNBA season will be wrapping up with Maya Moore hopefully leading the Lynx to their first national championship.

A reminder that the deadline for registering for the Crystal Frolics (July 28-31) is July 8. If you have questions regarding the event, please contact Scott Berggren at the Crystal Park & Recreation Department (763.531.1152)

The Duk Duk Daze (July 15-17) tournament deadline is also July 8. Contact Mike Schon at 763-531-5129 for more information about this tournament which will be held at Northwood Park in New Hope.

One last reminder that all teams going to World tournaments must play in their State tournament and a National tournament.

The Central Division National Tournaments are held over Labor Day weekend (Sept. 3-5).  The sites are:

Men’s “C” – Blaine, Minn.

Men’s “D” – Omaha, Neb.

Men’s “E” – Bridgeton, Mo.

Women’s “B/C” & “D” – Blaine, Minn.

With the postseason right around the corner, remember if you play on teams in different classes, you are eligible ONLY for those weekend and post season tournaments with your HIGHEST classified team. Teams found in violation of this will forfeit all awards and travel expense monies won and individual player eligibility may be placed in jeopardy, Ignorance is not an excuse; know the rules!

The following is a list of remaining tournaments that are run by our state office.  To enter any of these tournaments (which will all be played at BeBop’s in Blaine) call my office (763.571.1305 x 108) or visit our website at www.mnusssa.com.
