Inaugural Expo countdown is underway

“Play ball!”

Now that warm weather has arrived, those words are about to echo across ball fields throughout the upper Midwest.  And to celebrate, the first annual Let’s Play Baseball/Softball Expo is set to showcase all the latest in baseball and softball equipment to thousands of Midwest ball players.

The Expo will take place Saturday, April 14 and Sunday, April 15, 2007 at Canterbury Park in Shakopee.  Admission to this two-day ball extravaganza is free, and indoors.

A must-see stop for ball fans of all ages, the Expo will feature equipment manufacturers and training devices from the baseball and softball industries, and will give fans a first-hand look at all the latest in equipment.

Fans will be able to test out the new bats, purchase the newest equipment for this season or visit the interactive area and take a few swings.  Experts will be on hand to provide tips.

Additionally, the Play Ball! Minnesota youth baseball and softball conference conducted by the Minnesota Twins Community Fund will be held in conjunction with the Expo.  More than 400 youth baseball and softball coaches are expected to attend.

Scheduled appearances will include Minnesota Twins Michael Cuddyer and Nick Punto. They will sign autographs for children ages 14 and under from 11:45 a.m. to 12:15 p.m. on Saturday, April 14.  Twins radio broadcaster John Gordon will appear from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Saturday, April 14.

Former Twins coach Al Newman will be in the Aflac booth, where you can learn about fundraising opportunities for your team.

Other celebrities will be making appearances throughout the weekend.

Also, there will be a sports cards and collectibles area at the Expo as well.
